You“ll be thrilled on the banks of the River Thverį/Kjarrį.
The Thverį/Kjarrį is located in spectacular, natural surroundings in Borgarfjordur in south-west Iceland, approximately 140 km from Reykjavik, the capital. The mouth of the Thverį/Kjarrį is 20 km from the sea. The river runs into the glacial River Hvķtį, which enters the Atlantic at Borgarnes.
The source of the Thverį/Kjarrį can be traced to an area of lakes and extensive wetlands in the highlands of Iceland. The river falls by 380 m over a 71 km stretch. The upper river is known as Kjarrį and the lower stretch as Thverį. The average flow is over 18 m3/sec.
The fishing season
The fishing season for the Rivers starts in early June each year, although fish are likely to have entered the river prior to this date. The fishing period is relatively short, lasting only 90 days. The most prolific period on the rivers is considered to be the 6-week period from late June until the second week of August. Accordingly, this prime-season is reflected in the prices. There is a bag limit of, five fish per day for each rod. Your catch may be chilled or frozen so that you can take it with you when you leave. Alternatively, you can leave it with us for smoking and shipping at a later date. Catch and release is becoming more popular, and especially for 2-year-old fish-, weighing over 10 lbs.
